Head of the Class: Redesigning eNotes

It’s a given that we prize the written word at Mule. When the eNotes team approached us for a redesign, they dropped such aims as “a space for every student to engage” and “in-depth guided discussions” that shot straight to our bookworm hearts.

eNotes is a comprehensive educational resource that supplements classroom learning with vetted study guides, lesson plans, and reference materials. The real marvel is the eclectic nature of both the academic subjects and the collaborative community (made up of expert teachers and eager fellow students).

We wanted to better surface the breadth and depth of eNotes’ resources, from literary takes on murderous uncles in damp castles to elegant explanations of derivatives. To make for easier navigation and to encourage visitor exploration, we restructured the site around discrete topics. Our visual design took its cues from our bygone school days—we also added two handsome, homeroom-appropriate alternate backgrounds.

The result is an appealing, flexible site that welcomes learners of all ages.

Congratulations and thanks to Alex Bloomingdale, Brad Satoris, and the entire eNotes team!
